The Italian Eleanora Gasparrini (UAE Team ADQ) has won the sprint in the Binissalem-Andratx Trophy, the last test of the Garden Hotels Luscom-Challenge Ciclista Mallorca Femenina, defeating the Swiss Noemi Rüegg, winner on Saturday in the Colònia de Sant Jordi . Nadia Quagliotto (Laboral Kutxa) completed the podium in a race that was resolved in a sprint between just a dozen runners, among whom was the Mallorcan Mavi García, who tried in the last two climbs, but could not overtake her rivals.
The breakaway of the day was carried out by the German Katharina Fox (Maxx-Sola Rose), who jumped out of the peloton at kilometer eight, along with her compatriot and teammate Helena Bieber and the Austrian Kathrin Schweinberger (Ceratizit). The three reached a maximum difference of close to five minutes. On the descent of the Coll d’ in Claret, Fox launched alone and left her breakaway companions, while behind her, Movistar, UAE and AG Insurance assumed control of the leading peloton.
With barely twenty units in the main group, Mavi García accelerated the pace on the climb to Coll de sa Gramola and selected the group even more, but she was unable to open a gap. With Fox controlled at all times by the leading group, the victory was resolved in a select sprint at the finish line in Andratx, in which Gasparrini took advantage of the work of her teammates and avoided the full victory of EF Education-Cannodale in this first edition of the Mallorca Women’s Challenge. Mavi García, sixth at the finish line, was the best Spanish.
