The Swiss Noemi Rüegg, from the American EF Education, has surprised the great sprinters to win the Felanitx-Colònia de Sant Jordi sprint, the first test of the Garden Hotels Luxcom-Challenge Mallorca Femenina. In a massive, upward sprint, Rüegg overtook Arlenis Sierra, of the Movistar team, and Chiara Consonni (UAE Team ADQ), setting a time of 3h3’35” at the finish line. Laura Ruiz, in her debut with the Movistar was the first Spanish, in 9th place.The best local rider was Marga López (Proximus Cyclis CT), who was 35th, giving up 7 seconds at the finish line.
In the prologues of the race, a tribute was paid to the six-time cycling world champion Guillem Timoner, a native of Felanitx, who passed away last year. The event was attended by relatives of Timoner, the mayor of Felanitx Catalina Soler and the Minister of Tourism and Sports, Jaume Bauzà, among other authorities.
